Wake Spine – 02 – Framing in progress

Resilient Channel for acoustical benefits between exam rooms
Wall framing underway

In the 2nd week of construction on Wake Spine’s latest location, metal stud framing was well underway.  20-gauge metal studs line the halls and divide exam rooms.  Electrical boxes are roughed-in and plumbing work is underway.

Resilient channel is run horizontally from stud to stud to help reduce sound transmission between exam rooms.

The new Raleigh, NC location is expected to be open for patients in January 2018.

The project is being delivered through the Architect-led Design-Build process with Gontram Architecture

Bone & Joint – 02 – Framing underway

Week 2 of construction was busy with wall framing, electrical rough-in, and plumbing. Some walls were treated with resilient channel framing to reduce noise transmission between exam rooms.

NC School Boards Association Assembly Hall gets facelift

The North Carolina School Boards Association building in Raleigh is home to numerous office tenants along with the Association that represents public school personnel.  On the ground floor of the building is a large Assembly Hall that is used for group meetings and conferences.

The room was in desperate need of an upgrade, and Ten Penny Construction came equipped to propose material options, discuss pricing alternatives, and perform the work in less than 2 weeks time.

The project involved various sheetrock repairs, new carpet tiles, new wallcovering, new ceiling tiles, new LED lighting with a lighting control system, new ceramic tile, new paint, and re-installation of their photo display millwork.

The entire room and two common corridors were upgraded as part of this project.

Michael Jordan Collision – 20

Lots of hard work coming together in the last few weeks of the Michael Jordan Collision Center project in Durham, NC.

Work recently completed includes VCT flooring, ceramic tile, cabinetry, ceiling tile installation, and more.  On the exterior, the front driveway entrance and concrete tie-ins  were poured, and the fire line and domestic water line work was completed.

This coming week, we will install doors, toilet partitions/accessories, plumbing fixtures, and other last minute touches in preparation for final inspections.

On the exterior, the front driveway entrance and fire line will be inspected, fencing work completed, and landscaping may be installed.

This project is being provided to the Owner through the Architect-led Design-Build project delivery method with Gontram Architecture, Inc.

Michael Jordan Collision – 19

Coming down to the last few weeks of the Michael Jordan Collision Center project in Durham, NC.

Work recently completed includes prime paint, ceiling grid, lighting, ductwork, above ceiling inspections, and more.  On the exterior, the rear drive was poured, and the fire line and domestic water line work was cleaned up.

Finishing touches underway include ceramic floor and wall tile, painting in Body Shop area, ceiling tile installation, and others.

Next week, we will see VCT flooring installed, cabinetry, and plumbing fixtures. The last bit of fire sprinkler work should be completed next week as well.

On the exterior, the front driveway entrance will be repaired, fencing work completed, and landscaping may be installed.

This project is being provided to the Owner through the Architect-led Design-Build project delivery method with Gontram Architecture, Inc.

Michael Jordan Collision – 17

We are coming down to the wire at the Micheal Jordan Collision Center project in Durham, NC. With a month to go, work is at a fever pitch.

Guardrails and handrails installed at front entry
Geotech fabric installed at rear drive
Rear service drive gets a gravel base
Water meter vault and backflow preventer installed
Hollow metal door frames installed
Sheetrock finished and sanded, ready for paint.

After a week or so of bad weather, work has picked up again on the rear drive installation.  geotechnical reinforcing fabric and stone base has been placed, and will be prepped for concrete and poured next week.

The fire line installation is also nearing completion.  The tap was made last week, and there has been much flushing and testing of the line happening this week before the final connections can be made.

Sprinkler work on the inside is nearing completion on the Lower Level.  Upper Level work will start next week.

Sheetrock finishing is complete and we are readying for ceiling grid, lights, painting and floor finishes to start next week.

This project is being provided to the Owner thru the Architect-led Design-Build process with Gontram Architecture, Inc.

Michael Jordan Collision – 14

The front entry canopy steel went up this week for the Michael Jordan Collision Center project in Durham, NC.  Schulz Ironworks from Raleigh threw up the canopy in 2-1/2 days with only the perforated metal sign panel left to be installed next week.  The canopy is one of the finishing touches on the much upgraded entrance of this former warehouse building.

Also, well underway is installation of the fire line that will soon provide water for the new fire sprinkler system that is required for the building.  Since this is a relatively large body shop, the North Carolina Building Code requires the building be completely protected by fire sprinklers.

On the interior, installation continues for the paint booths and prep decks.

Michael Jordan Collision – 11

It’s been a busy week at the Michael Jordan Collision Center in Durham, NC.

Metal stud framing is now complete on the interior, and electrical wall rough-in is also nearing completion.  Plumbing rough-in finished earlier this week.

On the exterior, the new oil-sand separator tank (2,000-gallon concrete vault) was installed under the front parking lot.  Given the amount of rock encountered in other areas, we were relieved this installation went fairly smoothly.

A new sidewalk and steps was formed and poured to connect the Upper Level with the main entrance at the Lower Level.

Finally, the paint booths arrived and are about 50% complete.  They should be finished by the end of next week when the prep decks arrive.

Michael Jordan Collision – 10

Two months to go at the Michael Jordan Collision Center project in Durham, NC.

The interior concrete work is now complete, allowing metal stud framing for the customer and office portion of the project to begin.  The 30-foot high stud walls were the first to be installed.

New high windows along the south side of the building were framed and trimmed out.

The wash bays on the Upper Level were poured, allowing for the masonry wing walls to be installed in a week or so.

The front entrance canopy and ADA ramp were poured.

LED high bay lighting has begun in the Lower Level.

Next week, more exciting work continues as the paint booths are delivered and installed, and the 2,000-gallon oil-sand separator will be installed below the front parking lot. Structural steel for the new canopy entrance area is also due early next week.

Michael Jordan Collision Center – 01

Demolition is nearing completion for the Michael Jordan Collision Center in Durham, NC. Walls are down, plumbing fixtures, ceiling and unnecessary ductwork have been removed.

The existing fibrous spray-on fireproofing that was originally installed years ago is no longer necessary since we are sprinklering the building.  We are going through the pain-staking, laborious process of scraping all of the structural steel to remove the fireproofing and paint the steel since the substance would otherwise be a continuous dust and maintenance problem.

Construction Surveying underway

On the exterior, construction staking is underway.  Next week tree protection fencing will be installed and rough grading behind the building will begin.  A new rear driveway is being installed to provide at-grade, thru-building access.
